Getty Images + Facebook: “Notify”
Getty Images partnered with Facebook at launch of Notify to bring users expert visual curation of the world’s biggest moments as they happen
Notify, a new app from Facebook, delivered timely notifications about the things that matter to you, from the sources you love, all in one place.
On Notify, Getty Images curated and published visual news through the editorial content, exploring a new platform that connects people to the information they care about.
My team at Getty Images designed and built the first image-based delivery system for the app. We began with six channels: News, Sports, Fashion, Eye Candy and Flashback.
Facebook’s development of Notify in 2015 coincided nicely with Getty Images ramping up its strategic B2C plans, with the goal of attracting attention of non-creative, non-professional users who enjoy viewing great imagery and expect it to be both accessible and free.
“Stream” App
THE VISION
Enable Getty Images world-class imagery to be easily and legally shareable and embeddable via mobile devices.
THE CHALLENGE
Create a user experience that allows users to access, curate and share the majority of Getty Images collections, seamlessly, from iPhones and iPads and on iOS 8.
“Stream” by Getty Images was the very first B2C app by Getty Images. A free product that allowed consumers to view, curate and share millions of high quality photos.
The app was built for iPhone, iPad and IOS
“Stream” used Getty Images’ API to aggregate content and includes these key features:
BROWSE – Discover compelling, continually updated photos within our curated selections.
SLIDESHOW - view any of the streams as a slideshow.
SAVE - Save and favorite the pictures that inspire you.
SHARE – Embed & share your favorite images through social media, blogs, and email.
WALLPAPER - select your favorite images to use as desktop wallpaper.
Stream was one of the first applications built for Yosemite. It used Apple’s then new Swift language and CloudKit capabilities.
